CS lauds the contribution of GPP for strengthening institutional capacity in Balochistan

QUETTA (6 AM Reort): Chief Secretary Balochistan Abdul Aziz Aqeeli welcomed the provision of grants by the World Bank for improving the efficiency of government departments and increasing the efficiency of officers, and termed it as a good initiative for governance and provincial administration.
The meeting of the Chief Secretary with the delegation of Governance and Policy Project (GPP) was attended by Additional Chief Secretary Planning and Development Hafiz Abdul Basit, Secretary S&GAD and Secretary Information, here on Monday.
While giving a briefing on the professional development of GPP, it was stated that since 2017, GPP has been working with a grant funding of 16 million dollars from the Multi-Donor Trust Fund through the World Bank.
As a part of this project, the main target of local training is P&D Department, Finance Department, Balochistan Revenue Authority and other departments are included, The CS was informed.
The briefing further elaborated that to increase the professional skills of architects as well as to increase the capacity of other line departments with large expenses, out of more than 6 thousand trainees, about 1700 government officers/officials have been through the national level certification program, trainings in leading national educational institutions such as Pakistan Institute of Development Economics in Islamabad, Institute of Business Administration (IBA) in Karachi, Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), University of Engineering Lahore (UET) and Pakistan Institute of Management (PIM).
In addition to the local training program, the government of Balochistan has also approved a special package for senior executives and mid-career professionals through the World Bank.
The briefing further informed that senior executives will be offered short courses under open enrollment in internationally renowned educational institutions according to their professional skills and mid-career training.
Professionals will be given training on project management, contracts and reforms, besides their capacity building will be done through a program of knowledge exchange visits for mid-career professionals at the Singapore Management University.
Chief Secretary Balochistan, speaking on the occasion, said that the training provided by GPP to 6,000 officers and officials is a welcome initiative and now the governance policy project is working on capacity building of government departments and government officers, which will certainly improve the overall performance of government departments and officers.
He said that such initiative will lead to the improvement of the performance of Balochistan’s service delivery, adding that the Government of Balochistan extends its full cooperation with the Governance Policy Project in this important step on behalf of GPP and regards it as the development of the province and high performance of the departments.
He said that the Chief Minister Balochistan has also approved the establishment of Civil Services Academy in Quetta and funds have been initially kept for their trainings, adding, “Our aim is that along with the senior executive officers, the capacity building of all the officers should be carried out so that they can exhibit a better performance in the field.”
