Chief Justice Atta Bandial terms implementation of constitution as panacea for ills of country
‘All decisions of the judiciary, whether popular or termed as ‘controversial’ taken to implement constitution’
QUETTA (6 AM Report): Chief Justice Umar Atta Bandial on Monday has said that what they are committed to ensure rule of law sitting in the Supreme Court and Judiciary and the rights ensured under the constitution and law should be implemented.
The Chief Justice of Pakistan is in Quetta to hear the cases at Supreme Court’s Quetta Registry.
Speaking to the participants of a ceremony here on Monday, the Chief Justice has also emphasized on the supremacy of the Constitution and the law and has said that was really painful for them to see people misbehave at district judiciary
He further added that said that it is a pleasure to meet my colleagues here and he could see a lot of talent but he regretted that there had not been as much development which this region deserved, adding, “We cannot just blame the state for this, but we all have a share in it, which we should contribute to bring peace and tranquility to this society,” the Chief Justice said.
He said that here all the important issues of development, education, hard work, truth and honesty together form the path of development, questioning lack of development in the region notwithstanding presence of very nice people.
The Chief Justice said that earlier he was away from Balochistan being in Islamabad, adding that however now he had been given a house in Quetta, a reference which he made to Supreme Court’s Quetta registry. “We will work here but you will have to cooperate. Through this, we as a court can make decisions so that the people who are involved in this process, whether they are the state, the business community or taxpayers, we can tell them all that the law is the path to development and happiness,” Chief Justice urged, adding that sacrifices had to be made for development.
He said that under the current circumstances which the country was facing, it was very much essential everyone moved with a spirit of sacrifice for the sake of country, adding that let us remove the differences that we have with each other. Talking about the decisions in the court, the Chief Justice said that whatever decisions had been taken so far, whether they were controversial or popular, they had tried to implement the Constitution.
“One thing that the constitution emphasizes in this province and in the rest of the region is that the entity and existence of the state is like a mother,” the Chief Justice said that protecting and strengthening institutions is a great priority of the Constitution and our duty as a court is to protect the national institutions by implementing all these points of the Constitution.
