Failure of sewers amid rains lays bare claims of beautiful Quetta

QUETTA: The provincial government and city administration has been building tall claims of beautiful Quetta and there has been huge budgetary allocation for the city but it seems all to no effect. Nevertheless all such claims crumble within no time in the face of a light to moderate rain in the city. Recently a moderate spell of rainfall almost inundated the entire city and it became difficult for the citizens, passersby and two-wheelers to cross the roads, thoroughfares and streets without having to dip half their bodies into the pools of filthy water accumulated here and there as a result of the failure of sewers around the city.  This speaks volumes about the flawed planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the projects that are being executed under the financial agencies of the government and lays bare the contract awarding mechanism of the responsible departments.
For a city to become beautiful, it is essential that it is easily navigable, has a well functioning sewerage system catering to the needs of its entire population, and also has wide enough roads, and thoroughfares other than cosmetic lights and monuments that hang on roads.
The government has an urban Planning and Development Department which should be responsible for carrying out such planning for making this city inhabitable for its population of 2.2 million people.
