QUETTA (6 AM Report): The Editors’ Council of the Balochistan (ECB) Daily Newspapers held a meeting on Monday chaired by Anwar Sajidi focused on the financial issues of the print media industry.
During the meeting, all members discussed the current issues facing the print media industry in Balochistan. They expressed grave concerns over the current situation of the industry, stating that if the provincial government does not pay attention to resolving the issues, thousands of people associated with the industry will become unemployed.
The meeting also expressed disappointment that the Balochistan government has not fulfilled its obligations to the industry for the past five months, leading to a situation where media personnel have been deprived of their salaries.
“If the government does not immediately take action, media employees will be deprived of their salaries even during the upcoming Eid holiday,” they said.
The Chief Minister of Balochistan, Mir Abdul Qudoos Bizenjo, has been appealed to issue orders for the payment of dues and fulfill their obligations to the industry.
The meeting also highlighted that Balochistan is the only province where no increase has been made to the media budget for several years, while the cost of media materials has risen significantly.
The Editor’s Council has requested that the Balochistan government issue orders for an increase in the media budget, similar to other provinces, in line with the inflation rate.
