ISLAMABAD (Online): Following its approval by the joint sitting of parliament, National Assembly (NA) secretariat has sent again the Supreme Court (Practice and Procedure) Bill, 2023, to President Arif Alvi again for his approval
If president does not sign it now then it will become law automatically and will stand enforced from April 20.
NA secretariat resources said the Supreme Court (Practice and Procedure) Bill, 2023 has again been sent to the President Arif Alvi for his assent after having been approved by the joint session of parliament.
If president does not sign it within 10 days then it will become law automatically and it will come into force forthwith.
The bill with amendments was approved in the joint session of parliament with majority vote.
Under new law the suo motu powers of Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) will stand abolished. Three senior judges will decide about suo motu notice.
Appeal can be filed against suo motu notice decision within 30 days. The interpretation of constitutional matters will be made by 5-member bench. Rules and regulations will be made in respect of suo motu notice.
The CJP will constitute benches with the consultation of senior judges now.
