QUETTA (6 AM Report): The Balochistan Cabinet meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Balochistan Mir Abdul Qudoos Bizenjo, has approved a Community Led Local Governance (CLLG) policy aimed at promoting community-led local development in the province. The policy aims to encourage greater participation of grassroots communities in the local development process, linking identified grassroots needs and priorities with government investment. It will empower the third level of local government, local councils and local communities, and encourage their participation in local government sector development planning, financing and implementation. The CLLG policy also introduces local councils as partners as an integral part of the Balochistan local government system, and aims to facilitate vibrant communities with a holistic mix of socio-economic local development investments, including community physical infrastructure, technical and vocational training, income-generating grants, assistance to people with special needs, and any other needs of the community.
This innovative approach reflects a commitment to promoting a more inclusive and participatory approach to local governance, and builds on past experiences, notably with the EU-funded Community Mobilization Brace programme, and other provinces. The CCLG policy was developed by the Local Government and Rural Development Department in close collaboration with other key departments, with technical assistance provided by the European Union and implementation arrangements by DAI Global.
