QUETTA (6 AM Report): The Balochistan Editors Council (BEC) has expressed concern over the non-payment of dues to newspapers and journals by the Balochistan government on the occasion of Ramadan and Eid.
In a statement, the council has urged Chief Minister Balochistan Mir Abdul Qudoos Bizenjo and Chief Secretary Balochistan to take immediate action and issue a notice in this regard.
The statement highlights that the only industry of the province has been in crisis for several years, and timely payment is not possible due to a lack of budget in the Public Relations Department of Balochistan.
The council demands additional grants for the department, so that the owners and workers associated with the newspaper industry can celebrate Ramadan and Eid like other members of society.
The statement warns that if payments are not made immediately, the already crisis-prone industry will become even more serious, and the families of hundreds of employees and owners will be deprived of the joy of Eid. It also adds that without immediate action, it will not be possible to continue publishing newspapers. However, the council expressed satisfaction over the special interest shown by the Director-General and all officials of the Public Relations Department in this matter.
