SSGC increases monthly gas meter rent by 1150% in Balochistan

QUETTA (6 AM Report): Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has once again inflicted an inflation bomb on the consumers of Balochistan. The company has increased the monthly rent of gas meters from 40 rupees to 500 rupees, marking a staggering increase of 1150%. The decision will add an additional financial burden on the already struggling consumers of the province.

According to the notification issued by Sui Southern Gas, the new charges will be applicable to all consumers, regardless of their gas usage. Even those who do not use gas regularly will have to pay a minimum bill of 500 rupees per month, which includes three months of arrears, meter rent, and gas tariff. The decision has come at a time when the province is already grappling with rising inflation, unemployment, and economic instability.

Sources suggest that the decision to increase the rent of gas meters has been implemented on the directives of Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA). However, it has been clarified that the new charges will not be applicable to those whose gas bills are less than 0.9 cubic meters in November and December.

The move has been widely criticized by consumers, who are already burdened by the high cost of living. The people of Balochistan are demanding the government to intervene and take necessary steps to provide relief to the masses. It is worth noting that Balochistan is the most impoverished province of Pakistan, with a majority of its population living below the poverty line.

The decision of Sui Southern Gas Company to increase the monthly rent of gas meters has put an additional financial burden on the consumers of Balochistan, who are already struggling to make ends meet. The government needs to take immediate action to provide relief to the people and address the economic challenges faced by the province.
