Balochistan focuses on controlling malaria with collaborative efforts

ZHOB (6 AM Report): On World Malaria Day, Balochistan Rural Support Program and Indus Hospital and Health Network held an awareness walk and seminar on Monday to highlight the importance of controlling and preventing malaria in the region.

The event was attended by health officials, medical professionals, and community leaders, who discussed the current situation of malaria in Balochistan and the efforts being made to control it.

According to last year’s statistics, 100,000 people were screened in Balochistan, in which 16,000 positive cases of malaria were reported. In Pakistan, in the year 2021, 16 lakh people were found to have malaria, and in the same year, 313 people died of malaria. Most of them were young children and pregnant women.

The speakers emphasized that malaria is a dangerous disease that affects half of the world’s population and is a significant public health challenge in Balochistan. In different districts of Balochistan, Vox and felsiferum malaria have been found, and a large population of Zhob is affected by felsic ferum malaria.

To control the spread of malaria, Balochistan Rural Support Program and Indus Hospital have provided modern resources and facilities to 26 government health centers and 44 private laboratories for diagnosis, screening, treatment, and prevention of malaria in 21 districts of Balochistan, including Zhob. Facilities have also been provided to medical centers at the Union Council level for diagnosis, treatment, and remediation, where patients are diagnosed, screened, and treated free of cost.

The speakers emphasized the need for collaborative efforts between the government, health professionals, and community members to control malaria’s spread effectively. They also highlighted the importance of raising awareness among the public about the dangers of malaria and the preventive measures that can be taken to reduce its incidence.

Deputy Director of Livestock and Dairy Development Dr. Naseebullah Kakar, Dr. Afrasiab Mandokhail from the World Health Organization (WHO), Zainuddin Mardanzai from the World Bank, and representatives from various organizations were present in the ceremony. The collaborative efforts of all these organizations can play a significant role in controlling the spread of malaria in Balochistan.
