PARACHINAR (APP): At least eight school teachers were killed in Kurram tribal district here on Thursday.
According to a district police spokesman, unknown gunmen first opened fire at a van at Solozan Road in Upper Kurram, killing Muhammad Sharif on the spot.
After the incident, the armed gunmen entered the Government High School Teri Mangal and opened indiscriminate firing at teachers. As a result, six persons including four teachers were shot dead in the school. The teachers were performing examination duties at the said school. The schools were closed after the incident for an indefinite period. Those who were killed were identified as Meer Hussain, Jawad Hussain, Naveed Hussain, Jawad Ali, Muhammad Ali and Ali Hussain.
Police cordoned off the area and started a search operation after the situation was declared tense in the locality. President Dr Arif Alvi Thursday strongly condemned the killing of eight school teachers in Parachinar and Upper Kurram. The attack on teachers by the enemies of education was condemnable. He expressed the hope that the culprits would soon be arrested and punished as per law. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Thursday strongly condemned the incident of firing on teachers in Kurram district and expressed grief over the loss of lives in the deadly shooting.
APP: The spokesman of district administration here Thursday clarified that the tragic incident of Kurram district occurred due to an old enmity, adding the slain teachers were not deployed to conduct examination.
In a statement here, the spokesman said the reason behind the brutal incident was apparently to avenge the killing of a teacher, who was murdered on personal enmity this morning.
He said the victim party has attacked the rival teacher at Govt high school Teri Mangal to avenge the death of their relative.
