QUETTA (6 AM Report): The Population Welfare Department of Balochistan, in collaboration with the Pathfinder International and other partners, has developed and endorsed a strategy for postpartum family planning (PPFP) in the province. The strategy aims to prevent unintended and closely spaced pregnancies through the first two years following childbirth, which can improve the health and well-being of mothers and children.
A consultative meeting on PPFP was held on Tuesday, chaired by Abdullah Khan, Secretary Population Welfare Department, Balochistan. The meeting was attended by representatives from Planning and Development Department, Health Department, PPHI, Population Department, Balochistan Commission on Status of Women, Women Development Department and other stakeholders.

Dr. ZaibDahar, Senior Technical Advisor Pathfinder International and Dr. AshfaqMemon, Senior Program Manager Pathfinder briefed the participants about the salient features of the draft strategy and the steps taken in its development. The strategy covers both postpartum and post-abortion family planning services, which can be provided at different time intervals after delivery or abortion.
The meeting appreciated the efforts of the Population Welfare Department and the Pathfinder International in developing the strategy and stressed on its implementation for saving lives of mothers and children. The participants also shared their views and suggestions for improving the quality and access of PPFP services in Balochistan.
