Cooperatives vital for economic prosperity in challenging times: says governor
LAHORE (APP):Governor Punjab Muhammad Balighur Rehman has said that the cooperatives departments were vital to achieve economic stability in these difficult times the world was passing through.
Addressing a seminar on “Role of Cooperative Institutions in Economic Prosperity” under the auspices of Punjab Cooperatives Department at a local hotel on Wednesday, he said the world is faced with unprecedented economic challenges, global pandemics, climate change, and changing socio-economic conditions which shook economies, adding the importance of cooperatives for economic prosperity is undeniable.
The Governor Punjab said the goals that can be achieved through mutual aid and mutual cooperation cannot be achieved alone by a single person.
He said it is stated in the holy Quran that help one another in acts of piety and righteousness, adding that ‘Cooperative Movement’ is an international movement that aims to encourage people to come together for a good cause.
He said the cooperative movement plays an important role in fostering economic and social development of any country, as its institutions are designed to harness collective action and mutual strength, which can be achieved by individuals and groups.
Achieving common goals, improving their economic well-being, enables them to create a more resilient and sustainable society, he said. The Governor Punjab said that in today’s era, using technology and working together is very important, adding that the children in developed countries are taught teamwork from the beginning. This leads to success, he added.
He said supporting others and promoting collective resilience is indispensable for the economy and stability of the country.
President Punjab Provincial Co-operative Bank Limited Muhammad Saleem Tahir, Secretary Co-operative Punjab Musarat Jabeen, Chairman Punjab Co-operative Union Humair Hayat Khan Rokhri, Ashfaq Ahmad Chaudhry Registrar Co-operative Punjab were present on the occasion.
