QUETTA (APP): Interim Provincial Adviser to Chief Minister for Irrigation, Mir Danish Jan Longove on Tuesday was briefed that National Disaster & Risk Management Fund (NDRMF) has started work for restoration of flood damaged dams at a cost of 387 million to reduce losses during natural calamities.
He was briefed about the progress works of flood damaged dams when he was inspecting works of the restoration of Spinkariz Dam and Hanna Flood Irrigation Scheme. The Adviser also expressed his satisfaction with the ongoing work of the restoration of Spinkariz Dam and Hanna Flood Irrigation Scheme saying that there would be no compromise on the quality of the work.
The department should monitor the ongoing work on the irrigation dams and maintain the quality at all times, he said. On this occasion, Xen Irrigation Nadeem Dehwar gave a detailed briefing about the projects to Provincial Adviser Mir Danish Jan Longove and said that Spinkariz Dam was built in 1945 while the length of which was 2500 feet and the height was 50 feet. He said that in the year 2022, the body of the dam was damaged and the spillway was completely destroyed due to heavy rains and floods in the dam. After which the NDRMF has started work for the restoration of the dam at a cost of 387 million to reduce the losses during natural calamities.
He said that with the cooperation of Pakistan Army, NDRMF and Irrigation Department, the work on the restoration of the dam body and spillway was going on rapidly.
While giving a briefing about the Hanna Flood Irrigation Scheme, he said that work was also underway on the project to divert the water from the mountain railways coming from the Hana mountains to the Hanna lake saying that by which a large part of the flood water coming during the flood would be avoided and public losses from floods could also be reduced.
Provincial Advisr Mir Danish Jan Longove said that drinking water was being supplied to Quetta city and cantt through the WASA department from Spinkariz Dam. He said that there would be no compromise on quality in the ongoing work on dams and other Irrigation projects. Engineers of the Irrigation Department should supervise the works themselves and take action against the contractors who did not perform the work properly and quality should be ensured at all times at work, he directed that the contractors to speed up the work and maintain the quality.
He said that the restoration of the body of Spinkariz Dam and the completion of work on the Hanna Flood Irrigation Scheme would minimize the damage caused by rains and floods. The underground water level can also be raised by storing water there, he said.
