Provincial Govt. determined to eradicate polio virus from Balochistan: caretaker CM
QUETTA (6 AM Report): The caretaker Chief Minister Balochistan, Mir Ali Mardan Khan Domki has stated that the coverage of polio immunization campaign has improved gradually in the province.
In the August 2023’s campaign, the polio teams were succeeded in administering anti polio vaccine to the children while the coverage of the campaign run in May this year remained 100 percent and so in the previous campaign launched in the Quetta block, noted with contentment by the caretaker Chief Minister while speaking on the occasion of start of the country wide polio immunization campaign under National Task Force for polio eradication in Islamabad on Monday.
The Chief Minister also pointed out that no case of polio has been reported in Balochistan since January 27, 2021.
The last case of polio had been reported from Kila Abdullah, he maintained.
However, the polio virus has been detected in the environmental samples in Pishin district after 28 months, which is a matter of great concern for us.
Mr. Domki also said that the virus detected in the Pishin environmental belongs to Afghanistan.
On finding the virus, the special immunization campaign was launched on an emergent basis in Pishin from September 26.
However, steps are being taken for prevention of the virus and stopping it’s spread to other areas.
In addition to this, a special campaign of immunization is also being started in Pishin soon, the Chief Minister announced.
He said that five personnel of police and one cop of Levies force had rendered sacrifice of their lives in the province during polio immunization campaigns.
He added that still the provincial government is performing for eradication of polio with dedication.
He also praised the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation for working together in the cause against polio.
