A Bumpy Ride

In a disconcerting incident that unfolded on the streets of Quetta, the responsible and efficient image of the Green Bus Service was tarnished by the reckless actions of one of its drivers. The incident came to light when concerned citizens took to social media to express their grievances, prompting the Chief Minister Secretariat complaint cell to take swift action. The Chief Minister’s office, responding to the public outcry, released an official announced the initiation of an inquiry into the incident of irresponsible driving. The immediate suspension of the errant driver was also confirmed, reflecting a commitment to accountability and the safety of commuters.
The Secretary of Transport, Balochistan, Yasir Khan, expressed his concern over the incident, assuring the public that the Green Bus Service was instituted to provide superior travel facilities to the people. He emphasized that the standard of the service would be upheld at all costs, reinforcing the government’s dedication to ensuring the safety and comfort of passengers.
It is imperative to recognize that the Green Bus Service, introduced in July of this year, marked a significant step forward for Quetta, offering its residents the first-ever inter-city bus service. The fleet of eight eco-friendly buses aimed to address the city’s transportation needs while promoting environmental sustainability. Implement comprehensive training programs for drivers, focusing on responsible driving, adherence to traffic rules, and passenger safety. Regular refresher courses can help reinforce these principles. Establish a robust system for monitoring and evaluating the performance of drivers. This can include regular assessments of driving skills, adherence to schedules, and customer feedback. Explore the integration of technology, such as GPS tracking and surveillance cameras, to monitor the real-time activities of buses and drivers. This not only enhances accountability but also contributes to the safety of passengers.
Foster open communication with the local community to address concerns and gather feedback. Regular town hall meetings or an online platform can be established to encourage public participation in improving the service. Ensure that drivers are adequately trained in emergency response protocols. This includes first aid training and effective communication with authorities in case of any untoward incidents. As Quetta strives to build a reliable and sustainable public transportation system, the recent incident serves as a reminder of the collective responsibility we all share in ensuring the success of such initiatives. Through collaboration between the government, service providers, and the public, the Green Bus Service can not only recover from this setback but also emerge stronger, safer, and more efficient for the benefit of all residents.
