IHC restores 10 years disqualification for those convicted in  NAB cases

ISLAMABAD (Online): Islamabad High Court (IHC) has restored 10 years disqualification period for those convicted in NAB cases.

A division bench of IHC has suspended its single bench decision.

NAB  had resorted to IHC on the matter of contesting election by convicted persons.

NAB had requested the court to suspend single bench decision saying that 10 years disqualification be restored for those convicted in NAB cases  to contest election.

NAB was of the view that convicted persons are giving reference to high court single bench decision to contest the election.

NAB said single bench had set disqualification period as 5 years instead of 10 years. Intra court appeal  was  filed against single bench decision. Now single bench decision is being cited to contest election.

Division bench of IHC comprising Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kiyani and Justice Saman Rafat Imtiaz took up NAB petition for hearing Thursday and issued stay order against single bench decision.
