PPL’s arrears payment be ensured to Balochistan: Domki

Caretaker CM calls for continuity in ongoing federal development projects in southern Balochistan

QUETTA (6 AM Report): The caretaker Chief Minister Balochistan, Mir Ali Mardan Khan Domki has stressed the need to ensure continuity of ongoing federal development projects in the province.

He also emphasized upon ensuring payment of the dues to Balochistan by PPL.

The caretaker Chief Minister was speaking at the 51st meeting of Council of Common Interests (CCI) in Islamabad on Monday.

The Chief Minister on the occasion presented stance of the province in the national decision making.

He said that the special development projects have been included by Prime Minister in the federal public sector development programme (PSDP) keeping in view backwardness of the southern Balochistan.

He regretfully pointed out that the literacy rate and human development index is least in Balochistan than other provinces but maternal mortality rate is highest in the province as compared to other provinces.

He said that these figures and data are authentic from the international organizations and Federal Bureau of Statistics.

He also noted that only 24 percent had been released every year for federal development projects during last 20 years.

He said that more than 65 billion rupees of Balochistan are payable against PPL under the Sui extension lease.

In this regard, clear directives have already been issued by the Prime Minister to PPL, but payment of the arrears has not been made yet. As a result, Balochistan is facing financial hardships, he added.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister also presented the stance of provincial government about the sustainable development goals in the CCI.
