ISLAMABAD (INP): The US ambassador in Pakistan Donald Blome has held a detailed meeting with former foreign minister and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
Confirming the news, diplomatic as well as sources in the PPP have said that in the meeting that lasted close to one-and-a-half hour, Bilawal briefed the envoy on the general elections held in the country on February 8, and the negotiations underway between major political parties since then to form a coalition government.
According to party sources, the meeting was a “goodwill gesture” during which Pakistan-US relations were also discussed.
The PPP’s central executive committee (CEC) meeting is due to be held at Zardari House in Islamabad at 7:00 PM today at which briefing will be given on the party leadership’s yesterday’s meeting with the PML-N leaders.
Sources said that the offer made by the PML-N to the PPP for the formation of governments both at the Center and in Punjab would come under discussion at the huddle.
Furthermore, they disclosed, the meeting would also be briefed on the contacts being made with the independents for the formation of governments.
Former president and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will reach Islamabad from Lahore to attend the meeting.
