Govt crackdown on power distribution companies’ resorting to overbilling begins

ISLAMABAD (INP): On the order of Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Naqvi, a crackdown on those charging extra units in electricity bills from both government and private consumers has been launched.

In this connection, a notification was issued on Sunday, while teams, consisting of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) officials, have already been constituted for the purpose.

Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) Manager Anwar Wattoo has been appointed as the focal person.

After government power connections, the connections of private consumers will also be checked for overbilling.

The FIA teams will compile reports after checking connections of the consumers.

And in the light of these reports, it will be estimated how many extra units have been charged.

Legal action will also be taken against the officers and other employees resorting to overbilling.

Earlier, the interior minister had ordered action against power thieves.
