Ceremony marks commencement of anti-polio campaign and painting exhibition held
Anti-polio campaign to begin in Balochistan on 3rd:
Secretary Health, Coordinator EOC and DC Quetta administer anti-polio drops to children marking informal inauguration of 7-day campaign in 20 districts
QUETTA (6 AM Report): A ceremony was organized to mark informal commencement of the seven-day anti-polio campaign here at the Balochistan University of Information Technology, Engineering and Management Sciences (BUITEMS) on Friday.
The ceremony coincides with the painting exhibition arranged focusing on the awareness about prevention and eradication of polio virus.
The Secretary Health, Saleh Muhammad Baloch was the chief guest at the ceremony with Coordinator Emergency Operation Center (EOC) for Polio Eradication, Syed Zahid Shah, Deputy Commissioner, Lt. (Retd) Saad bin Asad and other concerned high ups besides representatives of the UNICEF, WHO and other line institutions.
The Secretary Health, EOC Coordinator, DC Quetta and other high ups administered anti-polio drops to the children at the ceremony.
The Secretary Health and others referred to the anti-polio campaign scheduled to begin in 20 districts of the province this month.
According to the revised schedule, the anti-polio campaign is being launched in 20 districts of the province in two phases.
In 14 districts, the immunization campaign is scheduled to commence from June 3 while in remaining 6 districts, the campaign would start from June 8, the Health department officials informed.
Meanwhile, the Secretary Health and other concerned high ups vowed to play wholehearted part for eradication of the polio virus from the province.
They urged all segments of the society to cooperate with the health workers for making the anti-polio campaign success.
They particularly appealed to the parents to ensure vaccination of their children below five years of age against the polio virus.
It may be mentioned here that move than 7,000 teams have been formed to administer anti-polio drops to above 1.8 million children in 20 districts during upcoming campaign.
It may be mentioned here that three cases of polio have been reported from even districts of the province this year. Similarly, the polio virus has also been detected in the environmental samples of different districts of the province during 2023.
