Quetta (UNA) – Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PMAP) Central Secretary and Convener of Pashtun Qaumi Jirga, Nawab Muhammad Ayaz Khan Jogezai, emphasized the challenges faced by the Pashtun community amidst difficult circumstances, stating that leading a tribe in such times demands resilience, patience, and unwavering commitment. Speaking at an event to install Sardar Idrees Khan Barich as the successor to the late Sardar Raza Muhammad Khan Barich of the Barich tribe, Nawab Ayaz lauded Sardar Raza’s positive contributions to his homeland, tribe, and people.
The event brought together notable figures, including PMAP Central General Secretary Abdul Rahim Ziyaratwal, Provincial Deputy Secretary Sardar Amjad Khan Tareen, and other provincial leaders, district executives, and Barich tribe elders. The ceremony was marked by the symbolic turbaning of Sardar Idrees Khan Barich, highlighting the continuation of the tribe’s legacy.
Jogezai lamented the diminishing public trust in the judicial system, asserting that external influences further weaken courts. In light of this, he advocated for a return to the traditional Jirga system—a centuries-old justice framework that has historically provided accessible, fair conflict resolution for the Pashtun community. “While state courts often favor wealth and power, the Jirga system has ensured justice at the doorstep of the needy,” he said.
He stressed that true leadership in such times requires steadfastness and responsibility, with only a few individuals embodying these qualities.
With the increasing social divisions and political turmoil, he highlighted the importance of unity among tribes.
Referring to the deteriorating national situation, Jogezai voiced concern over policies that have brought the country to the brink of disaster. He criticized recent electoral processes, which he claimed were marred by undemocratic practices and favoritism.
Central General Secretary Ziyaratwal also addressed the gathering, describing the turban as a representation of Pashtun traditions and cultural values. Sardar Amjad Khan Tareen reminded Sardar Idrees Barich of his role to uphold justice without bias.
In response, Sardar Idrees Khan Barich expressed gratitude to the Pashtun Qaumi Jirga and all attendees, committing to follow in his father’s footsteps and serve his tribe and community with dedication, seeking to address conflicts, foster unity, and bring progress.
The event underscored the enduring significance of the Jirga system and the need for committed leadership amid the ongoing struggles faced by the Pashtun community.
