In an era of growing environmental consciousness, sourcing the sustainable raw material has become a core consideration for businesses across the globe for the circular supply chain. It focuses on reducing the environmental impact through recycling, reusing and regenerating materials.
As compare to traditional supply chain, the circular supply chain encourages to use the materials and goods as long as possible instead letting them go.
There are several alternatives as compared to plastic which can be used to protect our environment like bioplastic which is made up of sugarcane and it can be available in biodegradable and non – biodegradable forms. Then there is recycled paper & cardboards whose usage can reduce the demand of virgin materials significantly. They can be used in different packaging formats like cartons and wrapping the materials. Beside these we have options of plant-based materials in which agricultural waste is being used to produce compostable and biodegradable packaging products. Last but not the least, compostable films are also replacing traditional plastic films for wrapping the products.
These alternatives solutions have positive impact on environment but also have challenges in their sourcing. As compare to traditional plastic these alternatives are not only expensive but their availability is also a challenge. Then if we talk about their performance then it will be difficult to achieve the same level of performance characteristics like strength, flexibility and durability.
Beside all these challenges these alternatives are best possible solution to protect our environment in this era. If we will not take important measures to stop the misuse of plastic then nothing can protect our environment.
Globally its need of the hour to ban the plastic and introduce the alternatives solutions no matters what price we have to pay for this. It is not problem of one area or any specific country. In fact, whole world is affecting because of plastic usage.
Sourcing sustainable raw materials for packaging is a critical component of achieving a circular supply chain. It requires a commitment to innovation, collaboration with stakeholders, and a willingness to invest in new materials and technologies. As more companies take steps toward sustainable sourcing, they contribute not only to the preservation of the environment but also to the long-term viability of their business. The path forward demands that companies prioritize sustainability in every aspect of their supply chain, from sourcing to end-of-life disposal, ensuring a better future for both businesses and the planet.
