QUETTA (6 AM Report): After weeks of political tension, the Balochistan government and opposition parties struck a major breakthrough on Tuesday, agreeing to release detained political workers and withdraw all cases registered across the province. The landmark decision was made during a high-level meeting at the Commissioner’s Office Quetta, held on the directives of Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Khan Bugti.
The government delegation was represented by provincial ministers Mir Zahoor Ahmed Buledi, Mir Shoaib Nosherwani, and Bakht Muhammad Kakar, with Zmarak Khan Achakzai attending as mediator. On the opposition side, participants included BNP leaders Advocate Sajid Khan Tareen, Akhtar Hussain Langove, and Agha Hassan Baloch; PKMAP representatives Talimand Khan, Majeed Khan Achakzai, and Kabir Khan Afghan; National Party Chairman Aslam Baloch and Chengez Hayee Baloch; ANP’s Asghar Khan Achakzai, Rashid Khan Nasir, and Walidad Miyani; PTI leaders Advocate Salam Agha and Malik Faisal Dehwar; JI’s Zahid Akhtar Baloch and Jamil Ahmed Mashwani; and MWM’s Maulana Vilayat Hussain and Muhammad Younas, among others.
During the meeting, the government delegation announced the release of arrested opposition activists and the withdrawal of all registered cases in the province as a goodwill gesture from Chief Minister Bugti. It was also agreed that opposition parties will coordinate with district administrations to hold rallies and processions under comprehensive SOPs.
Opposition leaders assured the administration of full adherence to the law, protection of public property, and peaceful conduct of political activities. They emphasized that no violent or damaging actions would take place during protests, with all demonstrations strictly following the agreed SOPs.
The meeting was also attended by Quetta Division Commissioner Shahzaib Khan Kakar and Deputy Commissioner Quetta, Captain ® Mehrullah Badini.
