QUETTA (6 AM Report): The Balochistan Food Authority (BFA) has launched a special campaign against the sale of substandard meat across the province. On the first day of the drive, 74 beef, mutton, and poultry shops were inspected, resulting in the closure of one shop and fines imposed on 22 meat shop owners for selling low-quality products.
The campaign, conducted under the directives of the Minister for Food and Chairman of BFA, focuses on enforcing hygiene standards, compliance with SOPs, and the elimination of spoiled meat. During the inspections, authorities took action against butchers for poor sanitation practices and violations of health regulations, confiscating and destroying significant amounts of stale meat.
The BFA inspection teams conducted checks in Quetta, including Satellite Town, Saryab, Nawan Kali, and other city areas. Director General of BFA Waqar Khurshid Alam stated that despite repeated warnings and corrective notices, many meat shops failed to maintain proper hygiene or follow SOPs, prompting the launch of this rigorous campaign.
“The aim of this special initiative is to ensure that citizens have access to fresh and healthy meat while safeguarding public health,” the DG said. The campaign is part of ongoing efforts by BFA to improve food safety and protect consumers across Balochistan.
