TURBAT (6 AM Report): Chief Justice of the Balochistan High Court, Justice Rozi Khan Barrech , has urged judges and lawyers to work together to restore public confidence in the justice system, stressing that eliminating “black sheep” from the judiciary and legal profession is a pressing need of the time.
Addressing a joint dinner hosted by the Turbat, Gwadar, and Panjgur Bar Associations, the Chief Justice emphasized that lawyers and judges must remain within their respective domains, as the real stakeholders are the people. “Both the bench and the bar are servants of the public, and the greatest form of patriotism is to deal with our own people with honesty and integrity,” he said.
The event was attended by Justice Iqbal Ahmed Kasi, Justice Sardar Ahmed Halimi, former Justice Abdul Hameed Baloch, Registrar of the Balochistan High Court Abdul Qayyum Lehri, District and Sessions Judge Turbat Waheed Badini, ATC Judge Nisar Alizai, senior lawyer Ali Ahmed Kurd, and a large number of judicial officers and bar members from Turbat, Gwadar, and Panjgur.
Highlighting the hardships faced by litigants—most of whom belong to the underprivileged class—the Chief Justice announced that the judiciary is establishing public facilitation centers in courts, including day-care centers, shelter homes for women, and waiting rooms. He directed that litigants must be treated with respect, warning that any officer disregarding public dignity would face strict action.
Justice Barrech further revealed that a system of accountability for both the bench and the bar is being introduced to expose mafias and unprofessional elements within the legal community. He criticized those who push their children into law merely to provide legal cover for illicit businesses, declaring that such elements must be expelled from the profession.
He also called on bar councils to refrain from vote-driven malpractice, vandalism, forgery, and tout culture, stressing that it is their responsibility to maintain the sanctity of the profession by removing corrupt elements from their ranks.
Announcing reforms for litigants’ ease, the Chief Justice said that with the establishment of a copy branch, statements and paper books would be provided free of cost to poor litigants. “The honor of the black coat lies in honesty and integrity,” he remarked, adding that public trust in lawyers over matters worth billions and in grave cases like murder must never be betrayed.
Concluding his address, Justice Barrech thanked the bar associations for their hospitality and reiterated that if judges and lawyers fulfill their responsibilities with sincerity, the judiciary will become stronger, more transparent, and regain the full trust of the people.
