QUETTA (6 AM Report): Provincial Minister for Finance and Minerals Mir Shoaib Nosherwani has said that the government accords top priority to the promotion of education and is fully aware of the financial problems being faced by higher educational institutions. He assured that efforts are underway to find sustainable solutions so that universities can perform their duties with full focus.
He expressed these views while chairing a meeting of the Universities Finance Commission, co-chaired by Provincial Minister for Education Raheela Hameed Khan Durrani. The meeting was attended by Secretary Education Saleh Muhammad Baloch, Special Secretary Finance Jahangir Kakar, and vice chancellors of all universities of the province.
Nosherwani informed participants that the salary payment issue had been resolved to a large extent, while efforts were continuing to address matters related to pensions and other financial challenges.
During discussions on operational expenditures, vice chancellors unanimously agreed to accept the policy framework that would be introduced by the Finance Minister to resolve these issues.
The Provincial Finance Minister said that a long-term strategy would be formulated to ensure sustainable solutions to operational costs, salaries, and pensions.
Both ministers emphasized that, within the government’s available resources, concrete steps were being taken to promote education. They highlighted that modern education and scientific knowledge are essential for bringing positive changes in nations’ lives. In today’s era, the importance of science and technology cannot be denied, as their development and innovations have a direct impact on improving human life and bringing revolutionary changes across various fields.
The ministers and participants reaffirmed their commitment to further improving the performance and quality of higher education institutions in the province.
