Quetta (UNA) – At least six Afghan migrants were shot dead and several others wounded after Iranian security forces opened fire on a group attempting to cross the Iran-Afghanistan border, according to the human rights organization Haalvash.
The incident took place in Iran’s Sistan province when around 120 Afghan nationals tried to enter the country illegally. Reports say Iranian forces resorted to indiscriminate firing, hitting women and children as well.
Several of the injured—identified as Ihsanullah Tajik, Nasrullah Barkzai, Hizbullah Barkzai, Wai Barkzai, and Bashir Ahmad Barkzai—were rushed to hospitals, with some in critical condition.
Following the incident, Iranian forces detained nearly 40 Afghan citizens. The shooting has sparked outrage among human rights groups and Afghan communities, who strongly condemned the use of lethal force against unarmed migrants.
