QUETTA (PR): The National Party has strongly condemned the federal government’s reported plans to restructure the National Finance Commission (NFC) and reduce the share of provinces, calling it a direct attack on the Constitution and the historic 18th Amendment.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the party’s central spokesperson described the move as “unconstitutional” and “an attempt to reverse decades of democratic progress.” The spokesperson warned that any reduction in provincial shares or tampering with the 18th Amendment would be met with fierce political and public resistance across the country.
“The 1973 Constitution and the 18th Amendment are the outcome of relentless democratic struggle and visionary leadership. They restored balance in the federation by empowering provinces and protecting their rights over resources,” the statement read.
The National Party emphasized that the 18th Amendment not only curtailed authoritarian tendencies but also granted constitutional protection to the NFC Award, ensuring a fair distribution of national resources. “Instead of strengthening provincial autonomy, there is a consistent campaign to roll back these gains — a move driven by centralist ambitions and elite interests,” the spokesperson added.
Accusing the ruling elite of masking their inefficiency and corruption by targeting provincial rights, the party warned that weakening provinces financially would cripple development and harm public welfare.
“The people will not accept any assault on their constitutional rights. We will resist this injustice at every forum — politically, legally, and through mass mobilization,” the statement concluded.
The National Party has called on all democratic forces and civil society to unite in defense of the Constitution and the rights of the federating units.
