QUETTA (6 AM Report): Mohammad Tahir has formally taken charge as Inspector General of Police (IGP) Balochistan, pledging sweeping reforms to modernize the force, restore public confidence, and ensure lasting peace in the province.
At a simple but dignified ceremony held at the IG Office in Quetta, Tahir was presented with a guard of honor by a smartly turned-out police contingent. The event was attended by senior officials, including Additional IGs, DIGs, and SSPs.
In his maiden address after assuming office, the IGP outlined his priorities: improving law and order, enhancing professional training, ensuring internal accountability, and making the police force more people-friendly. “Balochistan Police will be restructured on modern lines. Action will be taken against criminals without discrimination, and the police’s attitude will reflect service to the public,” he said.
Tahir vowed to utilize all available resources to combat terrorism, narcotics, arms smuggling, and targeted killings. He also held introductory meetings with senior officers and received briefings on district-level challenges, directing field officers to play a key role in addressing citizens’ problems while ensuring a positive working environment to boost police morale.
“Without public trust, the police cannot perform effectively. Police stations must be made more accessible, registration of FIRs simplified, and corruption eradicated,” he stressed.
Mohammad Tahir, a seasoned officer, has previously served in key positions, including Additional IGP in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, as well as senior roles in the FIA and federal institutions. His appointment has been welcomed by Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti, who expressed confidence that Tahir will play a pivotal role in strengthening law and order in the province.
