ISLAMABAD (ONLINE): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the National Disaster Management Authority to expedite ongoing relief efforts.
Chairing a meeting in Islamabad to review the flood situation and the ongoing rescue and relief operations, he asked the NDMA to ensure full preparedness in view of potential flood situation due to rising river levels.
The Prime Minister emphasized the need for early warnings and timely evacuation of communities residing near rivers and in high-risk areas.
He also directed the NDMA to maintain close coordination with provincial governments and their respective disaster management authorities to ensure a unified response.
Shehbaz Sharif stressed that the search for missing persons in flood-affected regions must be accelerated.
Chairman NDMA Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik briefed the Prime Minister on the current status of river flooding and flood streams across the country, along with ongoing relief operations for the affected citizens.
The Prime Minister was also apprised of the displacement of populations due to flooding and the scale of ongoing rescue efforts.
The briefing highlighted severe flood conditions at Trimmu Barrage, Panjnad Barrage, Head Balloki, Head Sidhnai, Ganda Singh Wala, Head Sulaimanki, and Head Islam on the Chenab, Ravi, and Sutlej rivers.
Besides, the Prime Minister was informed that relief convoys carrying essential aid supplies are being dispatched continuously to the flood-affected areas.
